  • First woman of color to play golf for Ohio University
  • First women of color to serve as captain of Ohio University’s Women’s Golf Team
  • First women of color to captain a golf team at a major university in this country
  • Powell made her professional debut on the LPGA Tour in 1967, and her first tournament was the U.S. Women’s Open
  • Powell has competed in over 250 professional golf tournaments
  • Powell is one of only six African-American women to have ever played for the Ladies’ Professional Golf Association since its inception in 1950 and the only one of those six who was a dual member of both the LPGA and the PGA of America.
  • Has been featured on The Golf Channel’s “Profiles of a Pro and “Golf Academy Live” as a golf instructor
  • Head Golf Pro of Clearview Golf Course, a historic landmark established by her father at a time when African Americans were prohibited from playing at many “white-only “golf courses
